The new coronavirus, also being called “2019-nCoV” is a virus that originated in the wet markets of Wuhan, China. This virus is said to have started from bats, and is closest to the SARS (SARS-CoV) virus that had a worldwide epidemic in November 2002-July 2003. SARS and the new coronavirus have an 80% genetic sequence similarity. These similarities can help scientists find ways to treat the new coronavirus using previous research from the SARS virus. As of February 19th, the novel coronavirus has “now killed more than 2,000 people” (CNN), and has tested positive in 15 people in the United States. The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention has put the overall death rate as 2.3%. Coronavirus spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and the contaminated droplets disperse. That is why it’s important to not touch your mouth or nose before washing your hands properly first. In conclusion, wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze, and stay safe. By: Aerin S.
There are teachers who keep students in after class if it’s detention or just wanting to explain the rest of homework. Students have places to go. Teachers shouldn’t be allowed to keep students 5 minutes after the bell. Students have places to go when the bell rings whether it’s after-school or home itself. A lot of parents pick their child up after school. If the student is suddenly pulled away from the other students to stay after class when they’re not supposed to, the parents/parent would get worried when their child is late showing up. Some students have after-school somewhere else. They could have Kumon right after school so they can’t stay after school. Other students have to catch the bus. Sometimes students have siblings that go to another school and has to be picked up right after their sibling. Or maybe students promised their parents that they’d be home by a certain time. So students have many places to go after school. Some teachers keep the whole class because of one student. They don’t understand that the whole class is not one student. They don’t understand that the one person in trouble doesn’t care that they made the whole class stay in. It is very annoying when the teacher keeps the whole class in especially here in A.P.G. At this point we all get that “the bell doesn't dismiss you, the teacher does”. We are always in a hurry to get to our lockers and pack our things. But with so many students and the design of the bottom and top lockers, it makes it hard for each student to get to their lockers. The hallways are always crowded so it always takes a few minutes before the students can actually get out of the mess. Also because of the design, kids with the top and bottom lockers are always racing to get to the locker before the other student. Teachers don’t understand how long we can take to grab our stuff and get to class. That is the reason there are always students running in the hallways. Teachers put pressure on students when they are late. Most of the time, students get in trouble when they are late to class. During passing period, 6th graders are always stressed about getting to class early. Some other teachers might keep them in before another class. Sometimes, kids might be dismissed late and be late to their next class. Then because of this, the student is blamed for being late by the teacher in the next class. Sometimes teachers don’t give the student a chance to explain why they are late. That is not fair, especially when we are taught as young children that adults know everything. On top of that, we’re taught not to talk back to teachers. They way that we are taught that if we do something wrong, we will be punished. Now there is seriously something wrong there. How can a student be accused of a “crime” they did not commit? And of course, we don’t want to be punished. We have strict rules in this school that are connected to time and schedules in this school. There are obviously consequences of being late for class. Consequences differ a lot with other teachers. There are some easy going teachers and the mean strict ones. Sometimes students get humiliated in front of the class for being late. That is not fair. Students should be allowed to talk for themselves if they are blamed for being late even if it’s not their fault. Students should also be able to explain why they are late if it's because of locker problems. Teachers should not keep students after class or after school. We have places to go, whether it's another class when the bell rings, or somewhere else after school. Hopefully the rules change, and adults should never make assumptions, just like any other human. When you go trick-or-treating, or when you go to the candy aisle of a grocery store, you’ll always see (or get) jelly beans. The glossy, sugary, bean-shaped candies can be seen all over the world in many different colors and flavors. In this article, you’ll learn about the different flavors of jelly beans, the history of Jelly Belly, Jelly Belly’s Official Flavors, how they’re made, and a funny little story all about them featuring one of the presidents of the United States! The History of Jelly Belly Jelly Belly was founded by Gustav Goelitz, a German 24-year-old immigrant. He and his brother, Albert Goelitz, who was 21 at the time, created a sweet shop together, and this was where the family business first kicked off. They produced different kinds of candies, such as candy corn and mint wafers, before starting to create jelly beans. Herman Goelitz, on ov Gustav’s descendants, founded the first mini jelly beans, jelly beans that were created with flavors on the inside. After this discovery, their family business got more and more popular, and in 1986, their new jelly bean factory was constructed! They named it the Jelly Belly factory, and began to print them over all of their jelly beans. The Goelitzs began to produce more special products, like Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans (from Harry Potter), Sport Beans, Bean Boozled, and more! Who knew that just a tiny little sweet shop in a small town in Illinois become one of the most well-known candy products in the world? Jelly Beans have a long process before they truly come to life. This is how jelly beans are made:
Ronald Reagan, the 40th president, inspired blueberry flavored jelly beans and prepared jelly beans for astronauts . His favorite type of candy was Jelly Belly jelly beans, so it was in the Oval Office and the Air Force One for him to enjoy. He wanted jelly beans at inaguration parties, but Jelly Belly only had red and white jelly beans. They came up with a new flavor, blueberry, so he could serve red, white, and blue jelly beans. Jelly Belly jelly beans were also the first jelly beans in outer space. It also inspired other world leaders to have Jelly Belly too. The president prepared jelly beans for astronauts on the space shuttle, Challenger in 1983 as a presidential suprise. Ronald Reagan’s passion for Jelly Belly changed the jelly bean world. Fun Facts
