By Beatrice Sixt Billie O’Connell, also known as Billie Eilish (Eilish is one of her middle names), is a sixteen-year-old alternative pop songwriter and artist. She is currently going on her third tour, called the 1 by 1 tour, to places like San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Chicago on the map. Billie also recently performed at Camp Flog Gnaw, a music festival in LA. But it wasn’t always that way. She was born in Highland Park, Los Angeles to a family of musicians. In a video interview, she said that she was a dancer and made her own music videos to songs she liked. Her first video on her Youtube channel was a dance video where she did aero arts (which her mom used to teach). Unfortunately, she had an accident which caused her to stop dancing, (I think in an interview with Nardwuar she said that she tore the muscle in her hip from the bone, but don’t quote me on that) and said in an interview that if she never did music, she wouldn’t know where she’d be. Billie works closely with her family. Her brother, Finneas, co-writes and produces her music. She released her breakout hit ocean eyes in 2016 on Soundcloud. After that, she released another song, Six Feet Under, on November 18, later that year. In early 2017, she released an EP with four remixes of ocean eyes. In August of 2017, she released her EP, Don’t Smile At Me. It had 9 songs on it:
It was well received. The 6th song, bellyache, is her second most viewed video on her Youtube channel. She’s also put out some singles lately: a holiday song for an Apple Music commercial called come out and play, a more angsty song called You Should See Me In A Crown, and one of her most popular songs, when the partys over, which has blown up, getting spot #1 on the Youtube trending page. They all are well loved, with You Should See Me In A Crown getting minor criticism for not being her typical sound.
I think Billie is very talented for someone so young. I look forward to seeing what else she does. You can find her music here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiGm_E4ZwYSHV3bcW1pnSeQ/videos Comments are closed.
