By Eva Ciobanu and Anya Sleeper Sheppard A brief history of ice cream: The ice cream that we know today was once known as "Cream Ice”. Originally, Roman emperor, Nero Claudius Caesar (ruled from 54-68 CE), sent runners into the mountains for snow, which he then flavored with honey, nuts, and fruit toppings. In 1553, France was introduced to similar frozen desserts. But it wasn’t until 1660 that ice cream was made available to the general public and appeared regularly at the table of Charles I during the 17th century. The Ice Cream Quiz 1.
