The History of Jelly Belly Jelly Belly was founded by Gustav Goelitz, a German 24-year-old immigrant. He and his brother, Albert Goelitz, who was 21 at the time, created a sweet shop together, and this was where the family business first kicked off. They produced different kinds of candies, such as candy corn and mint wafers, before starting to create jelly beans. Herman Goelitz, on ov Gustav’s descendants, founded the first mini jelly beans, jelly beans that were created with flavors on the inside. After this discovery, their family business got more and more popular, and in 1986, their new jelly bean factory was constructed! They named it the Jelly Belly factory, and began to print them over all of their jelly beans. The Goelitzs began to produce more special products, like Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans (from Harry Potter), Sport Beans, Bean Boozled, and more! Ronald Reagan, the 40th president, inspired blueberry flavored jelly beans and prepared jelly beans for astronauts . His favorite type of candy was Jelly Belly jelly beans, so it was in the Oval Office and the Air Force One for him to enjoy. He wanted jelly beans at inaguration parties, but Jelly Belly only had red and white jelly beans. They came up with a new flavor, blueberry, so he could serve red, white, and blue jelly beans. Jelly Belly jelly beans were also the first jelly beans in outer space. It also inspired other world leaders to have Jelly Belly too.
