You probably have heard of the zodiacs, Cancer - the crab, Leo - the Lion or Aries - the Ram. Those zodiacs are based on the month you were born in. Also, those zodiacs are constellations that you might be able to see in the beautiful night sky. But have you heard about the Chinese Zodiac? The Chinese Zodiac consists of 12 animals, not constellations. A version of the myth goes that the Jade Emperor wanted a way to keep track of time, so he asked all the animals to participate in a race. The animals that participated in the race were the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and the Pig. In the end, the animals were placed, in the order above, depending on what place they were in the race. The Rat starts and the Pig ends the cycle of the Zodiacs. The cycle repeats every 60 years. You might have thought it was every 12 years because there were 12 animals. It’s 60 years because the animals are linked to something called “The Twelve Earthly Branches” and “The Ten Heavenly Stems”. “The Ten Heavenly Stems” are linked to the different prime elements, Metal “金”,Wood “木”, Water “水”, Fire “火” & Earth “土”, and the elements are linked to either Yin or Yang “阴阳”. For 60 years, the elements keep switching “Earthly Branches” and the animal is linked with a different element . There is also such zodiac as your inner zodiac, which are your less obvious characteristics that you barely show with others (based off your birth month); your true zodiac, which is the characteristics you will grow into as an adult (based off the day of the week you were born on); and your secret zodiac, which is your truest characteristics (based off the time you were born). For example, my zodiac is the Yang Metal Tiger, my inner zodiac is the Horse, my true zodiac is a monkey and my secret zodiac is the Pig. If you want to find out your inner, true and secret zodiac, check out this website page, https://exemplore.com/astrology/Chinese-Astrology-Determining-Your-Month-Day-and-Hour-Animal, scroll down and you’ll find your zodiacs (the secret zodiacs are based off Beijing time, so you’ll have to convert the time you were born to Beijing CST zone). Now you know about the Chinese Zodiac and how it became. Have a great year! Comments are closed.
