By Ishaan Bhattacharya Welcome back to the Giannini Politics Update. Today, the first topic of discussion is Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain’s recent victorious vote in Parliament. This vote was crucial to her intentions of leaving the European Union, and had the contingency to subvert them. Then, we will review President Donald Trump’s 2019 State of The Union address. In a recent Parliamentary vote, Members of Parliament (MPs) rejected a proposal to delay the United Kingdom’s (UK) departure from the European Union (EU), in order to prevent the UK from leaving without a deal. This amendment, proposed by Labour MP Yvette Cooper, was abruptly rejected by 23 votes. Members of Parliament voted 321 to 298 to deny Cooper’s proposition. Consequently, Brexit will continue and proceed on March 29, 2019. In President Donald Trump’s annual State of the Union address, he projected his views and objectives in a remorseless and somewhat contumacious speech. Trump proposed his idea of a unified nation that does not consist of two parties, but rather is undivided. Trump also aroused new tensions with Democrats by showing a ruthless stubbornness over reasonable compromise for his border wall. This is a subject that threatens a second government shutdown. Trump also praised a multitude of recent successes in the country, including the increase of jobs and women in Congress, which did please the Democrats. Comments are closed.
